Why do I need insurance?
Although we ensure that all our stores are fully insured, for your own peace of mind and protection, you’ll need to take out insurance for your stored items against loss or damage.
Our rental prices don’t include insurance, as the cost depends on the value of your stored goods.

How do I insure my belongings?
You have two options to insure your belongings while they’re in storage:
- Take out the special insurance policy: created exclusively for Shurgard customers, with premiums starting from 130 kr per month, depending on the value of your stored items. The majority of our customers choose this option.
- Use your own contents insurance: you may be able to arrange coverage through your own contents insurance, but coverage varies by insurance company. We recommend checking directly with your provider if you’re considering this option.

How much does insurance cost?
The cost of insurance depends on the insured value of your stored belongings. Prices start from 130 kr per month.

What does the insurance policy cover?
The insurance policy we offer covers direct damage to or direct loss of your goods during storage caused by:
- force of nature e.g. storm, flooding, fire
- a third party e.g. when a driver hits the gate
- burglary in your storage unit or location after break-in

Can I use my own insurance provider?
Yes, you can use your own insurance provider, provided that your policy includes contents insurance for externally stored goods. Coverage varies between insurance companies, so we recommend checking directly with your insurer to confirm whether your stored items are covered.
